Gibson, Towers get contract extensions from D-backs

Nov 3, 2011, 8:00 PM | Updated: 9:06 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Thursday that they’ve
extended the contracts of field manager Kirk Gibson and
general manager Kevin Towers.

Gibson just completed his first full year as manager of the
Diamondbacks, guiding them to a 94-68 record and the team’s
fifth National League West title in 14 years. That
success came on the heels of back-to-back last place
finishes in the division.

Gibson has already been named the National League Manager of
the Year by Sporting News and is an overwhelming favorite
to win a similar award handed out by Major League Baseball.

Towers also finished up his first year in the Arizona front
office after being hired in October of 2010.

Both Gibson and Towers received extensions that run through
2014 with a team option for 2015 and 2016.
