D-backs’ Derrick Hall receives healthy results from PSA test

Jan 11, 2012, 12:34 AM | Updated: 12:37 am

Arizona Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall
announced on his Twitter on Jan. 9 that he is
nearly cancer free.

“Terrific news tonight. My important post-op PSA test showed
less than 0.1 and basically cancer free. Will check every
three months now!”

The prostate-specific antigen exam measures how much PSA is
in the blood, which can be a biological indicator of
disease.

Hall was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September 2011
and underwent surgery in November to remove his prostate.
He became an advocate for early prostate exams because the
42-year-old did not wait until his 50s, as recommended, to
be tested for the disease.

Hall and the organization received national support from
fans and opposing teams, and Hall was a driving motivation
for the Diamondbacks during the postseason.
