D-backs, Montero agree on one-year deal

Jan 31, 2012, 3:11 PM | Updated: 3:41 pm

It looked like the Arizona Diamondbacks and catcher Miguel
Montero were headed for the court room for an arbitration
hearing, but that won’t be necessary.

The two sides avoided salary arbitration and have agreed
on a one-year deal worth $5.9 million according to
reports
.

Montero was seeking $6.8 million, and the Diamondbacks had
countered at $5.4 million. But in the end, Montero is
getting a well-deserved $2.7 million raise.

Montero was a National League All-Star for the first time
in
2011, hitting .282 with 18 home runs and 86 runs batted
in.

The 28-year-old Venezuelan had career highs in hits (139),
doubles (36), runs scored (65) as well as homers and rbis
last season, when he made $3.2 million.
