Diamondbacks searching for another catcher

All-Star catcher Miguel Montero will be with the
Diamondbacks — for this season, at least — but in
general, catcher is the D-backs’ weakest position.
Sure, veteran Henry Blanco is a capable backup, but if
Montero were to go down with an injury there really isn’t
anyone in the organization who can be counted on to step
in and play every day.
That’s why GM Kevin Towers has made — and is still making
— finding some catching help a priority.
“That’s not knocking what we have down below, but
throughout the whole system that’s probably the area where
we’re probably as light on prospect talent as there is at
the catching position,” he said. “We were talking to clubs
this winter, trying to identify young catchers that could
be available just to add to some of the depth in our
system.
“That hasn’t changed.”
Towers said the team has a few players in mind, and they
will continue to scout those players this spring and
throughout the minor league seasons.
“More guys at the Double-A, Triple-A that we think are
close, just to give us some protection in case something
does happen with Miggy.”
