ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Extended spring training game next for Drew

Apr 12, 2012, 5:13 PM | Updated: 6:17 pm

When spring training started for the Arizona Diamondbacks,
there was cautious optimism that shortstop Stephen Drew
would be able to appear in some Cactus League games.

That didn’t happen so Drew, who broke his right ankle in a
game last July 20, started the season on the disabled
list.

The next step in Drew’s recovery is extended spring
training, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.

Drew is scheduled for four at-bats in Thursday’s game, and
isn’t expected to
do a lot of base running.

Willie Bloomquist and John McDonald are holding down the
shortstop position until Drew can return.
