The future is now for Patrick Corbin.
The 22-year-old heralded prospect will join the Diamondbacks rotation when
he starts Monday against the Miami Marlins, taking the spot of struggling
hurler Josh Collmenter.
In four starts with Double-A Mobile, Corbin has amassed a 2-0 record and a
pristine 1.67 ERA. The promising southpaw’s call-up isn’t surprising since
Corbin opened eyes in Spring Training and garnered praise from D-backs
manager Kirk Gibson for his performance.
Fellow top pitching prospects Trevor Bauer and Tyler Skaggs were likely
considered for Collmenter’s spot in the rotation, as well. Instead, the D-backs
chose to go with the left-handed Corbin in an effort to bolster their rotation.
Collmenter has struggled mightily in the early portion of the 2012 campaign,
posting an 0-2 record with an inflated 9.82 ERA in four starts. He will be
assigned to the bullpen where he assume the role of long man for the
Diamondbacks.
