D-backs getting closer to health

May 7, 2012, 11:43 PM

The east coast was not kind to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After taking three of four from the Miami Marlins, Arizona
finished up 2-4 against the Washington National and New
York
Mets to settle for a 5-5 road trip.

And while the club is glad to be home, there is even
better
news on the horizon concerning three injured players.

Center fielder Chris Young took batting practice Monday
before the Diamondbacks’ series opener against the St.
Louis Cardinals and could go on a minor league rehab
assignment next week. Young hasn’t played since April 17
when he injured his right shoulder in a 5-4 loss to the
Pittsburgh Pirates.

Young shared the following tweet earlier on Monday:

Manager Kirk Gibson also said that shortstop Stephen Drew,
who’s working his way back from a horrific ankle injury
suffered last July, will increase his playing time to five
full innings in an extended spring training game Tuesday.

And right-handed starter Daniel Hudson, who’s been on the
shelf with a right shoulder impingement, will throw a
bullpen session consisting of 35 to 40 pitches Tuesday and
he could be back in the D-backs’ rotation by the end of
May.
