D-backs’ back-to-back shutouts a rarity indeed

The Arizona Diamondbacks have played 2,334 games since
their inaugural season in 1998.
On only seven occasions have they been shut out in back-
to-back games by opponents.
The seventh time occurred Sunday afternoon when Los
Angeles Angels’ hurlers Garrett Richards and Ernesto
Frieri combined on a 4-hit shutout in a 2-0 win.
Saturday, it was Ervin Santana who baffled the
Diamondbacks in a one-hit shutout, also in a 2-0 win.
In all, its been 21 innings since the Diamondbacks scored
a run. Ryan Roberts knocked in Lyle Overbay with a double
during a four-run sixth inning Friday night. Nothing but
goose eggs have followed.
Of the seven times the D-backs have been dealt consecutive
shutouts, almost inexplicably, five of them happened in
southern California. The Dodgers have turned the trick
four times against Arizona, with the Angels getting into
the act over the weekend.
