Tabbed as one of the top cornerback prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft, UConn’s Byron Jones has scheduled seven visits — including one to the Arizona Cardinals — between now draft day, according to a league source.

Though the Cards appear to be plenty comfortable with projected starting corners Patrick Peterson and Jerraud Powers, quality depth at one of the more critical positions on defense can’t be overemphasized.

Jones has seen his stock enjoy a meteoric rise since putting on an absolute show at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis earlier this February. Not only did Jones post an insane vertical leap of 44.5 inches at the combine, but he also set a world record, recording a 12-foot, three-inch mark in the broad jump.

The 22-year-old also ran 4.36 in the 40-yard dash at UConn’s Pro Day in late March.

In addition to his obvious athletic prowess, Jones is also lauded for his versatility, converting from safety to corner while in college.

Despite suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in his final season in Storrs, Jones tallied 24 tackles and two interceptions in seven games for the Huskies last season. Jones finished his collegiate career with 223 tackles and eight interceptions.

The NFL Draft kicks off in Chicago on Thursday, April 30. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN and NFL Network.
