D-backs fail to clinch series at Giants, lose 4-1: By the Numbers

Despite suffering through an eight-game losing streak entering Saturday night’s game versus the Arizona Diamondbacks, the San Francisco Giants were in a celebratory mood, as the Giants received their World Series Championship rings prior to the game’s first pitch.

The Giants would have even more reason to celebrate after the game, as Chris Heston had a second strong outing against the D-backs this season, allowing only five hits and one earned run through seven and two-thirds innings to pick up his second win of the year.

The D-backs would get a solid pitching performance of their own from starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa, who would strikeout seven Giants Saturday, but would also endure frustrating third and forth innings that saw the D-backs allow three runs; the difference ultimately in the game.

There weren’t an overwhelming number of bright spots for the D-backs Saturday night in the Bay Area, but one positive to be pulled from the 4-1 loss was the continued steady hitting from right fielder Mark Trumbo. Going 2-for-4, Trumbo extended his current hitting streak to seven games.

While we’re on the topic of hitting streaks, D-backs third baseman Jake Lamb also continued a hitting streak of his own, going 1-for-4 to extend his streak to six games. Lamb has been a revelation for the D-backs to this point, batting .414 through 10 games this season.

Left fielder David Peralta belted his second home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning to cut San Francisco’s lead to 2-1. Peralta’s first dinger of the season also came against the Giants in the D-backs’ second game of the season.

Saturday marked only the 40th time Mark Trumbo and Paul Goldschmidt have batted together in same starting lineup. The two sluggers would combine to go 3-for-8 against the Giants tonight.

The numbers of pitches thrown by D-backs starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa. The hard-throwing righty from the Dominican Republic struggled in the early going, allowing three runs combined in the third and fourth innings, but would do well to limit the Giants’ scoring opportunities, striking out seven in six and two-thirds innings of work. Though De La Rosa’s ERA sits at 6.00, Saturday’s loss to San Francisco was just his first of the season (2-1).

In game where two notable hitting streaks for the D-backs were extended, one also came to an end, as center fielder Ender Inciarte went 0-for-4 Saturday to see his eight-game hitting streak snapped.
