The Pulse: Fans say Jake Lamb should take over for Yasmany Tomas at third base for D-backs

Despite wielding a hot bat in place of the injured Jake Lamb at third base for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the majority of fans in our Sanderson Ford Poll Question of the Day say that Yasmany Tomas should head to the bench or find a new position once Lamb returns from the 15-day DL.

Lamb, who has been out of the D-backs’ lineup since April 19 nursing a stress fracture in his left foot, received 56 percent of the vote (404 of 717). Tomas, who is batting .330 in 34 games played and recently had his 11-game hitting streak snapped, received just 40 percent (290 overall) of the votes cast.

Aaron Hill took home two percent of the vote, while Cliff Pennington and “Other” each received one percent of all submissions.

In fairness to Lamb, he was Wally Pipp-ed to a degree, as the 24-year-old native from Seattle, Washington was thriving at third base in his own right prior to his injury. In 29 at-bats this season, Lamb is batting .414 with three doubles, one triple, one home run and nine RBI. He is also considered an overall better defensive option for the D-backs at the hot corner.

Fans of Tomas shouldn’t fret quite yet, however, as Lamb isn’t expected to return from his injury for another two weeks.
