ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

A closer look: D-backs win fifth straight

Jul 25, 2012, 4:44 AM | Updated: 3:07 pm

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but
we
all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a
baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you
with
the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ July 24 win
over
the Rockies.
Final
score: Diamondbacks 6, Rockies 2.

The Good:

The Diamondbacks offense finally seems to be clicking.
They’ve
scored at least six runs in seven straight games. That
ties the second longest streak in club history. It’s also
the
Diamondbacks fifth straight win overall and they currently
have an eight game win streak at home.

The Bad:

Michael Cuddyer was the only Rockie that seemed to have
Joe Saunders’ number tonight. He hit two home runs for his
eighth multi-homer game of his career. Lifetime, Cuddyer
is
7-for-13 with two doubles and two home runs off of Joe
Saunders.

He Said It:

Manager Kirk Gibson likes what he’s seeing from Chris
Young who has a six-game hitting streak. Young has gone 8-
for-20
(.400) with four doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and
six runs scored in the last six games.

“He’s great, he’s coming on. He’s been working on being
able to hit the ball to all fields in BP, now it’s showing
up in games. It’s a tribute to him. He was also mad about
the whole deal (going on the DL) but I really feel like we
did the right thing to get him to work his way out of
pressuring himself and pressing.”

Noted:

The nine strikeouts recorded by starter Joe Saunders
tie a career-high (September 28th, 2008).
Saunders six straight quality starts is the second longest
streak within a single season in his career.

Up Next:

Right-handed pitcher Trevor Cahill will take the mound
versus lefty Jeff Francis for
the Rockies. The D-backs look to take the series sweep.
Francis
has lost six straight decisions against Arizona dating
back to September 28, 2007.
