A closer look: Miley dominates in win against Dodgers

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but
we
all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a
baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you
with
the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ July 31
win over the Dodgers.
Final
score: Diamondbacks 8, Dodgers 2.

The good:

Wade Miley had another strong outing for the Diamondbacks, improving his record to 12-6.

Miley threw 8 innings and gave up just three hits while striking out seven. Miley outdueled Chris Capuano who gave up five runs over 7 innings pitched. Capuano had only given up five or more runs twice this season.

The bad:

Back pain kept Willie Bloomquist out of the lineup again tonight. The team is hoping to avoid placing him on the DL, but the fact that they did not deal shortstop Stephen Drew could be a hint that they may soon have to do so.

He said it:

“We’re just playing good baseball right now,” Miguel Montero told Fox Sports. “The guys are pitching better and they’re giving us a chance to win.”

Montero hit a three run home run in the sixth inning with two outs, giving the Diamondbacks a four run lead.

“When you get a rally going and you can score with two outs good things happen,” Montero said.

Noted:

Chris Johnson is 4-for-8 with six RBI in his first two games with the Diamondbacks. All six of his RBI have come with the bases loaded.

Coming up:

Patrick Corbin (4-2, 5.05 ERA in five starts) has been called up for the Diamondbacks and will start against the Dodgers Wednesday at 12:10 Wednesday, hoping to take the series sweep. Corbin will face off against Stephen Fife (0-0, 1.46 ERA in two starts).
