Two D-backs minor league squads in championship series

On Wednesday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks saw two of its minor league teams in championship series action.
The Reno Aces, the D-backs’ Triple-A team, fell to the Omaha Storm Chasers 9-6 after giving up an early lead in Game 2 of the Pacific Coast League Champion Series. The Storm Chasers tied the series at one game apiece with the win.
Daniel Cabrera took the loss for the Aces, giving up five runs on six hits through 4.1 innings of work. Storm Chaser pitcher Ryan Verdugo picked up the win, giving up five runs on eight hits through 6 innings.
Omaha’s offense was led by Anthony Seratelli, Max Ramirez and Mitch Maier who all homered in the fifth, which highlighted a 12-hit game for the Storm Chasers.
Mike Jacobs and Tyler Bortnick supplied all the offense for the Aces driving in a combined five runs on three hits.
However, the other Diamondbacks minor league team in playoff action Wednesday night did not share the same misfortune. The Mobile BayBears, Arizona’s Double-A team, managed to even up their Southern League Championship Series with 7-2 victory over the Jackson Generals.
The BayBears were led by starting pitcher David Holmberg, who limited the Generals to just two runs on five hits through 6.2 innings of work. His performance was backed up by a BayBears offense that outhit the Generals 11 to 5.
After a pair of doubles in the fourth led to a 1-0 lead, the BayBears unloaded in the fifth, sending eight batters to the plate and pushing across five runs.
The two teams will now travel to Mobile for Game 3, with both teams looking to take a 2-1 series lead.
