Brenly not returning to Cubs’ booth, D-backs possible?

At the end of the baseball season, the Arizona Diamondbacks made the decision to revamp their television broadcast team.

Play-by-play man Daron Sutton, who had been on suspension since June, and color commentator Mark Grace, who took an indefinite leave of absence in August following a second DUI arrest, were both let go. The decision fueled speculation on whom the Diamondbacks would go after to fill the spots.

Most focused on Bob Brenly, who was a broadcaster for the Diamondbacks during the early days of the franchise and later managed the team to their only World Series championship. Brenly has been a broadcaster with WGN and the Chicago Cubs for the last several seasons. That changed Wednesday, according to Chicago Sun-Times deputy managing editor Chris De Luca.

Brenly is one of the top color commentators in the business, as evidenced by the fact that he’s worked national broadcasts for TBS in the last few postseasons.
