D-backs’ pitching leads to series sweep against Giants: By The Numbers

Over the course of three games at AT&T Park this weekend, the Arizona Diamondbacks accomplished something few teams, if any, can say they have done — they out-pitched the defending world champion San Francisco Giants.

Their Opening Day starter, Josh Collmenter, had moved to the bullpen, but the Snakes relied upon a trio of young arms to lead them to three straight wins as the club remains in the hunt in the middle of June, not too shabby an accomplishment for a team that boasted the worst record in baseball in 2014.

Here’s a look at Arizona’s pitching staff in San Francisco, by the numbers:

Number of no-hit innings in back-to-back starts by second-year right hander Chase Anderson and rookie Allen Webster on Friday and Saturday.

Anderson outdueled 2014 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner Friday night, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Giants catcher Buster Posey broke it up with one out. Anderson gave up the lone hit in seven innings, walking one while striking out two in the 1-0 Arizona victory.

Webster, who was making his major-league debut in the place of Collmenter, took advantage of an early three-run lead to carry a no-hitter into the sixth inning before surrendering a hit to Giants second baseman Joe Panik. Webster gave up two runs on two hits, walking three and striking out two on his way to a 4-2 D-backs victory.

Number of career saves for Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Daniel Hudson, who was forced into the role Sunday afternoon in Arizona’s 4-0 win. Hudson, who is in the bullpen following two Tommy John surgeries as a starter, also picked up a hold Friday night.

Number of wins this season for Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Rubby De La Rosa, who threw eight scoreless innings in Arizona’s 4-0 win Sunday. De La Rosa now leads the team in wins, posting a 5-3 record with a 5.27 ERA in 13 starts.

Number of arms who saw action out of the bullpen during the three-game set. Hudson and right-hander Brad Ziegler each picked up two appearances, while Randall Delgado and Andrew Chafin each appeared in Saturday’s game.
