Shane Bertsch wins Rust-Oleum Championship

WESTLAKE, Ohio (AP) — Shane Bertsch won the Rust-Oleum Championship on Sunday for his third career Web.com Tour title, beating Lucas Lee by a stroke at Lakewood Country Club.

The 45-year-old Bertsch closed with a bogey-free 5-under 66 for an 18-under 266 total. He also won on the tour in 2000 and 2005.

“It’s been a long time,” Bertsch said. “I’ve been close a few times. I’ve always known I could do it. I’m just glad I could prove it to everyone else.”

Bertsch earned $108,000 to jump from 35th to fifth on the money list with $178,678.

The former Texas A&M player from Colorado had four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the front nine, added another on the par-4 13th and was facing a 5-foot birdie putt on No. 15 when rain delayed play for 2 hours, 40 minutes. He missed the putt when play resumed.

“I was a little jittery when we came back,” Bertsch said. “I got a little nervous when that putt didn’t fall. A birdie there would have been huge and could have made a big difference. It had a lot more break than I imagined.”

Lee birdied the final two holes for a 65. The Brazilian tied for second last week in the Greater Dallas Open.

Money leader Patton Kizzire tied for third at 16 under after a 67, his fifth top-five finish of the season. He earned $34,800 to push his season total to $254,699.

Michael Kim also finished at 16 under, shooting a 68.

Third-round leader Peter Malnati had a 72 to tie for fifth at 14 under.
