Arizona Cardinals John Skelton not affected by QB competition

For John Skelton, the quarterback competition at Arizona Cardinals camp hasn’t proved to be a distraction.
“I don’t think it really crosses my mind too much,” Skelton told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf Show Thursday. “It’s something where whether I was competing for a starting job or competing to be on the roster, I am going to take it the same way.”
The Fordham product doesn’t feel too anxious about the competition with Kevin Kolb, but he did admit he pays more attention to the mistakes he makes in camp.
“I am pretty even keel,” Skelton explained. “I don’t get too high, I don’t get too low. There’s times coming off the practice field where you look back and you kind of regret a throw you made or regret a read and maybe now being in this situation you kind of harp on it a little longer.”
Skelton, who has been praised for the intangibles he possesses, threw for 1,913 yards and 11 touchdowns and showed great poise in the pocket while leading the Cardinals in the absence of an injured Kolb last season.
The 24-year-old knows he has to improve his accuracy and protect the football if he wants to beat Kolb out for the starting job, but he feels he’s making great strides in those areas.
