ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Only D-backs have scored a run in every game this season

Five weeks into the season, the Arizona Diamondbacks are the only team in baseball that has scored at least one run in every game they’ve played.

Although, they haven’t done it without surviving a few close calls.

In the second game of the regular season, Arizona managed a single run on just three hits against the St. Louis
Cardinals in a 6-1 loss.

The D-backs came close to being shut out less than three weeks later against the Colorado Rockies. Down 3-0 with two outs in the ninth inning, Arizona got on the board when outfielder Gerardo Parra came across home plate on a throwing error by Colorado third baseman Chris Nelson.

Arizona was left as the only team to make it through April without a shut out loss following a scoreless effort by the New York Mets against Philadelphia Friday. MLB waited a few days to tweet out the announcement:

Naturally, the same day the announcement was published, the D-backs found a way to cut it close once again. While hosting the San Francisco Giants, Arizona kept its streak intact after shortstop Josh Wilson hit the 10th home run of his six-year career in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s 2-1 loss.

Outside of these few instances, the D-backs haven’t been much at risk of being held scoreless 28 games into the season.

However, scoring at least a run in every game doesn’t translate directly into winning. The Diamondbacks are 15-13 and third in the National League West, while the Atlanta Braves are 17-10 — first in the National League East — with zero runs scored in half of their losses.

Averaging 4.3 runs per game this year, Arizona ranks 12th in MLB with 121 runs on the season and 14th with a .251 team batting average.
