Former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham agreed to terms on a deal with the Arizona Cardinals, the team announced Friday.

Gresham, 27, agreed to a one-year deal.

The 6-foot-5, 261-pound tight end was targeted 79 times last season, hauling in 62 passes for 460 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games.

He missed the final game of the 2014 season and the playoffs after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back.

The former Oklahoma Sooner has never caught fewer than 46 passes or had less than 458 receiving yards in his five-year career. In fact, he is one of three tight ends — San Diego’s Antonio Gates and Carolina’s Greg Olsen the others — to have at least 40 receptions, 400 yards and four touchdowns in each of the last five seasons.

A Pro Bowler in 2011 and 2012, Gresham has caught 280 passes for 2,722 yards and 24 touchdowns in his career. He was a teammate of Cardinals QB Carson Palmer in 2010.

One of Gresham’s new teammates, Patrick Peterson, is a fan of the addition.

The Cardinals were seeking depth at the tight end position because John Carlson, their leading receiver among tight ends last season (33 catches, 350 yards, one touchdown), unexpectedly announced his retirement this offseason.

That left them with an inexperienced group consisting of 2014 second-round pick Troy Niklas, Darren Fells, Gerald Christian, Ifeanyi Momah, Ted Bolser and Gannon Sinclair.
