Arizona Diamondbacks designate Jason Kubel for assignment

To make room for David Holmberg, who will start Tuesday against San Diego, the Arizona Diamondbacks have designated outfielder Jason Kubel for assignment.

Kubel, 31, battled injuries in 2013, his second season with the Diamondbacks. Hitting just .220 with five home runs and 32 RBI in 89 games for the team, he had found playing time scarce of late.

Last year went much better for the former Minnesota Twin, as he hit .253 with 30 home runs and 90 RBI for Arizona.
