Paul Goldschmidt on pace to replicate or surpass 2013 exploits

...

When Paul Goldschmidt was the National League’s runner-up for Most Valuable Player in 2013, heads turned. No one saw it coming for the former eighth-round pick.

He led the league in home runs (36), runs batted in (135), slugging percentage (.551), total bases (332) and on-base-plus slugging percentage (.952). Duplicating that didn’t seem possible.

But 71 games into the 2014 season, Goldschmidt is on pace do just that.

When comparing the first 71 games of his 2013 season, Goldschmidt could well even surpass some of his numbers from last year.

2013 Category 2014
71 Games 71
266 At-bats 278
80 Hits 86
.301 AVG .309
.380 OBP .374
.556 SLG .568
.937 OPS .943
17 HR 15
62 RBI 51
34 XBH 42
35 Walks 29
65 Strikeouts 71

Goldschmidt is on pace to finish 2014 with 196 hits with 116 RBI, 34 home runs and 62 doubles.

He has homered in back-to-back games and currently leads National League first basemen in All-Star voting.
