ESPN Insider calls for D-backs to pawn Martin Prado off to Blue Jays

Major League Baseball’s non-waiver trade deadline is Thursday, July 31 and the Arizona Diamondbacks (45-60) are all but guaranteed to be selling off some of their pricier players with the goal of improving their roster for seasons to come.

General manager Kevin Towers already sent pitchers Joe Thatcher and Brandon McCarthy away in trades earlier this month and more moves are anticipated in the coming days.

Jim Bowden of ESPN.com speculated Sunday in an ESPN Insider piece as to who Towers may be looking to deal next.

Among other names, the former major league GM suggested that third baseman Martin Prado could be packing his bags.

Bowden floats out a prospective trade for the Diamondbacks involving Prado and the Toronto Blue Jays, saying:

Prado and cash to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for left-handed pitcher Sean Nolin and right-handed pitcher Miguel Castro. The deal would give the Diamondbacks two solid pitching prospects, with Castro having the better upside. In return, the Blue Jays would get the right-handed hitter they have been seeking, allowing them to move Brett Lawrie permanently back to second base.

He also names the Oakland Athletics, Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants as teams that “covet” the 30 year-old.
