D-backs sunk by Marlins in extras: By The Numbers

The Arizona Diamondbacks have now played 31 innings in the last two days, going 1-2 in three games and losing in walk-off fashion twice.

On Thursday, it was the Miami Marlins who provided the drama.

Starting pitcher Chase Anderson wasn’t his sharpest in Miami, allowing nine hits, two walks and three runs over 6.0 innings pitched.

Though the D-backs added four runs on just six hits against Marlins starter Brad Penny, the home team rallied late against relief pitcher Brad Ziegler.

For their part, the D-backs squandered five hits, striking out 11 times, before debutant pitcher Bradin Hagens surrendered the winning run in his second frame of work.

Here’s a look back at the loss by the numbers:

2

Anderson has lasted more than 6.0 innings in just two of his 15 career starts. On Thursday, he surrendered a career-high nine hits and walking two, matching a career-high 11 baserunners in total.

3

D-backs infielders combined for three double plays on Thursday.

6

David Peralta drove in Cliff Pennington in the third inning with his sixth single of the year. It was also Peralta’s 27th birthday.

8

D-backs leadoff man Ender Inciarte stole his eighth stolen base of the season Thursday while scoring a run on a hit and a walk.

15

D-backs’ six through nine hitters combined to go 0-for-15 with a walk and six strikeouts Thursday. Jake Lamb and Didi Gregorius each went 0-for-4 while Xavier Paul and Anderson went 0-for-3 and pinch-hitter Jordan Pacheco was hitless in his lone at-bat.

31

The D-backs and Marlins have combined to play in 31 extra innings games. The D-backs are now 10-4 in their extra innings games while the Marlins improved to 8-9 in their share of the contests.
