After two-plus-year absence, Daniel Hudson throws perfect inning in return to Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson threw a perfect eighth inning during the D-backs’ 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night in his first Major League appearance in over two years.

Hudson, who underwent two Tommy John surgeries to repair an elbow he injured after just nine starts for the D-backs in 2012, retired Abraham Almonte (grounded out), Yangervis Solarte (lined out) and Alexi Amarista (grounded out) in order, throwing nine strikes on 13 pitches.

The D-backs are hopeful that Hudson, who was activated from the disabled list on Monday, will eventually regain the form that allowed him to go 26-15 with a 3.58 ERA in 53 starts for the D-backs from 2010 to 2012, including a 16-12 record with a 3.49 ERA in 2011.
