After missing over two months of action, infielder Chris Owings returned to the batting order, while outfielder Cody Ross made a pinch-hit appearance for the Arizona Diamondbacks in their 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.

Owings, who played second base, went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI in his first start since July 25. He earned a base hit in his first at-bat of the evening and scored Arizona’s first run of the game off a triple by outfielder David Peralta. He added a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.

Owings missed over two months with a shoulder injury. He went 0-for-1 in a pinch-hitting situation on Tuesday. The 23-year-old is hitting .276 with six home runs and 21 RBI in 74 games with the D-backs this season.

Ross, who returned following rehab from a calf injury, had a pinch-hit single for the D-backs in the ninth inning. The 33-year-old is hitting .242 with two homers and 11 RBI this season for Arizona.

The returns of Owings and Ross came one day after outfielder A.J. Pollock, who was sidelined for three months with a broken hand, went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his return to the D-backs’ lineup. Pollock did not play Wednesday night.
