In 2014 the Arizona Diamondbacks unveiled the culinary monstrosity that is the “D-bat Dog.”
An 18-inch corn dog stuffed with cheddar cheese, jalapenos and bacon that came with a heaping side of fries, the dish could be purchased for $25.
And purchased it was.
According to ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell, D-backs president and CEO Derrick Hall said the team sold a whopping 9,517 D-bat Dogs this season.
“Everyone wanted it, including all the visiting broadcast teams,” Hall said. “We’ve had these ‘wow’ items for some time, and most of the time they don’t stick. This one caught fire. It’s going to be hard to top this one”
Hall added that when the season began the supply could not keep up with the demand, forcing the team to purchase three new fryers and the supplier to work extra hard to make more.
