Apparently $425,000 doesn’t go as far as it used to. At least not in Cincinnati.
That’s because, according to Cincinnati.com, former Arizona State Sun Devil and current Reds pitcher Mike Leake, who is scheduled to earn that much this season, was arrested for shop lifting $59.88 in merchandise from Ohio Macy’s.
Leake, of Ludlow, was arrested after Macy’s department store loss prevention employees stopped the Reds pitcher today after they say he took $59.88 in property from the store.
Police said the incident was caught on security cameras at the Downtown Macy’s.
The theft, which is listed as misdemeanor, comes with a maximum of 180 days in jail.
The 23-year-old Leake was drafted in the first-round of the 2009 Major League Draft with the eighth selection out of ASU.
What Leake allegedly stole was not released but we’re willing to bet nothing that costs roughly $60 at a Macy’s is worth the embarrassment, ridicule and possible jail time he’s receiving now.
Maybe next time he’ll just ignore the ‘steal sign’ altogether. Really, what’s $59.88 out of $425,000 anyways?
