Doan says Coyotes have nothing to fear except for maybe Sharks

The Phoenix Coyotes have 95 points, good enough for fourth in the Western Conference. Playing well, the team is hoping to reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time since becoming the Coyotes.
Forward Shane Doan, on Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Ash Wednesday, said the team thinks they can compete against anybody they may face in the postseason. There is one caveat, though.
“You look at the team that has kind of owned us it’s been San Jose,” he said, noting how they’re on a fairly impressive losing streak to the Sharks. “We got two games left against them so it’s going to give us a chance to kind of respond but I don’t think you necessarily want to go into San Jose and have to play them in a seven game series.”
The Coyotes have been outscored 17-7 in four losses to the Sharks this season, further confirming San Jose’s ownership. However, the Desert Dogs do have a couple more chances to notch a win, including an April 8 tilt in Glendale. Should they falter again they’ll have one more chance the very next night in San Jose.
The silver lining for Phoenix, even if they can’t beat the Sharks, is that as of now the teams would not be matched up in the postseason until at least the second round. Should it get to that point the Coyotes would have then made it farther than ever before, and that in itself could be considered a win.
