After every Phoenix Coyotes game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for April 20, 2011: Red Wings 6,
Coyotes
3
The Coyotes, going into Game 4, knew they were up against
it. Trailing 3-0, they had pretty much been dominated by
the Red Wings, having not so much as led in a game since
early in the series opener. Wednesday was different,
though the final score doesn’t really show it.
The Good
The Coyotes led 2-1 and 3-2 at different points in the
game. Shane Doan, Taylor Pyatt and Martin Hanzal all
scored. The Coyotes also out-hit the Red Wings 37-17.
The Bad
Coyotes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov struggled again. While
some of the goals were of a flukey nature and a couple
were probably more on the defense than the goaltender,
stopping 33 of 38 shots will rarely get it done. However,
the Coyotes mustered only 27 shots of their own, limiting
their chances to slip a few past the Wings’ Jimmy Howard.
The Funky
After going 0 for 6 on the power play in Game 1 the
Coyotes went 6 for 12 in the remaining three games,
including a one for two effort in Game 4.
