A milestone for Coyotes’ F Ray Whitney

Feb 7, 2012, 12:25 AM | Updated: 12:28 am

When the Phoenix Coyotes take the ice Monday night against
the Detroit Red Wings at Jobing.com Arena, left winger Ray
Whitney will reach a milestone.

Whitney will play in his 1,200th career game, becoming only
the 8th active NHL player to reach that mark.

The 39-year old Whitney broke into the league April 15, 1992
as a 19-year rookie with the San Jose Sharks. Six teams and
1,198 games later he’s on the precipice of history.

Whitney joins Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom,
Washington’s Roman Hamrlik, Jaromir Jagr of Philadelphia,
Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne, Islanders’ center Brian Rolston,
Jason Arnott of St. Louis and Sean O’Donnell of Chicago as
the active members of the 1,200-game club.

Incidentally, the next player to reach the mark, barring any
setbacks, will be Coyotes’ captain Shane Doan, who is
projected to play in his 1,200th career game April 6th at
St. Louis.

Whitney is 12th on the list of active players with 357
goals, including 16 this season for the Coyotes.
