Free agent running back Chris Johnson passed a physical with the Arizona Cardinals Monday, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Head coach Bruce Arians later confirmed he passed the physical and now it is in the hands of Cardinals GM Steve Keim and Johnson.

It was reported last week that Johnson would visit the team over the weekend and take a physical. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that if all went well there, he would likely sign with the team.

However, Keim downplayed the meetings on Monday with Doug and Wolf on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM

“We have discussed Chris Johnson for sure, and I’ve had some conversations with his agent, Joel Segal, but there’s nothing on the horizon to report as of right now,” Keim said.

Johnson, 29, is coming off a season in which he tallied just 663 rushing yards, the lowest total of his career. He also caught 24 passes for 151 yards while scoring two total touchdowns.

“Chris is one of those guys, every time he touches [it] you hold your breath,” Arians told Bickley and Marotta on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. “He could take it to the house.”

He eclipsed 1,000-yards each of the six previous years, with a high of 2,006 yards in 2009. He has career totals of 1,897 rushing attempts for 8,628 yards and 51 touchdowns with 296 receptions for 2,154 yards and nine scores.
