The tragic events in Boston this past week touched those near and far in the sports world, including one member of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle grew up a few miles outside of Boston in Milton, Massachusetts, before going on to play at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham.

As a native of the area, Yandle wanted to do his part to honor those who lost their lives or were injured during the Boston Marathon bombings.

Saturday, before the Coyotes took on the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center, Yandle went to the ice with a No. 8 jersey for pre-game warmups. On the jersey read the name “Martin Richard” to commemorate the life of the eight-year-old boy who was killed during the explosions.

In addition to the tribute jersey, Yandle had the words “Pray for Boston” put on both of his skates.
