Free agent tackle Chris Williams, who was released by the Chicago Bears earlier this week, was in Tempe Thursday to work out for the Arizona Cardinals, according to various reports.
The Cardinals’ offensive line has been porous this season as Arizona quarterbacks have been sacked 29 times in just six games, with the majority of them the responsibility of tackles D’Anthony Batiste and Bobby Massie.
Williams, a former first round pick of the Bears in 2008, has 38 career start on his résumé, but none this season. In his second season in 2009, Williams started all 16 games, splitting time between right and left tackle. In 2010 and 2011, the 6-foot-6, 320-pound former Vanderbilt Commodore made 22 starts at left guard.
The Philadelphia Eagles, a team who has had issues at the tackle spots themselves, brought Williams in for a visit/workout Wednesday, but did not sign him to a contract.
