Arizona Coyotes hire Darcy Regier as assistant GM, senior VP

The Arizona Coyotes made an addition to their front office Thursday. General Manager Don Maloney announced the organization has signed Darcy Regier to a multi-year deal to be the team’s assistant general manager and senior vice president.

Regier spent 17 years as the general manager of the Buffalo Sabres prior to joining the Coyotes. His tenure in Buffalo was the longest of any GM in the franchise’s 44-year history. Under Regier’s watch, the Sabres went to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999 and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals on three other occasions — in 1998, 2006 and 2007.

Prior to Buffalo, Regier served in roles with the New York Islanders such as director of hockey administration, assistant coach and assistant GM, the Coyotes said.

“We are very pleased Darcy has decided to join us in Arizona,” Maloney said. “Darcy adds intelligence and experience to our management team. The wealth of knowledge he has garnered as a long time general manager in the National Hockey League is invaluable to us. He is a great addition to our staff.”

Regier, 57, was chosen 77th overall in the 1976 Amateur Draft by the California Golden Seals, the Coyotes said, and he appeared in 26 games in three seasons for the Islanders and Cleveland Barons.
