The Arizona Cardinals signed tight end Joseph Fauria Thursday. In a corresponding move, they placed tight end Ifeanyi Momah on injured reserve.

A veteran of two NFL seasons — both with the Detroit Lions — Fauria comes to Arizona with a stat sheet that includes 24 catches for 281 yards and eight touchdowns. He appeared in all 16 games as a rookie in 2013, catching 18 passes for 207 yards and seven scores.

The 6-foot-7, 262-pound former UCLA Bruin was released by the Lions on Sept. 5 during their final roster cuts.

The Cardinals felt the need to add Fauria to their tight end room because of losing Momah. Signed after impressing during the NFL’s Veteran Combine, the converted wide receiver had established himself as a mismatch in the passing game while being a capable blocker.

With Fauria now in the fold, the Cardinals are set to open the season with Darren Fells, Jermaine Gresham, Troy Niklas and he as tight ends on the roster. Gerald Christian, the team’s seventh-round pick, was placed on injured reserve with his own knee injury.
