It appears the Phoenix Suns new WeArePHX campaign includes a stroll down memory lane.
The Suns announced Tuesday they will host a scrimmage Oct. 3 at the Suns original home, the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The “Madhouse on McDowell” as it was dubbed, hosted the Suns from 1968 until 1992 when they moved into the heart of downtown and the newly built America West Arena, now soon-to-be Talking Stick Resort Arena. The “Madhouse” hosted 14 playoff appearances and it was where Phoenix clinched the team’s first finals appearance in 1976.
The event follows the Suns return from training camp in Flagstaff and will be free to the public, but the team is encouraging fans to RSVP. There will be a fan festival at 3 p.m. with autograph sessions, food trucks, DJs and of course, the Gorilla and the Suns Dancers. The game will follow at 6 p.m.
