D-backs’ Goldschmidt continues to thrive at Dodger Stadium

Paul Goldschmidt is amazing.
Yes, you already knew that. But the Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman continued his unbelievable season Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
Goldschmidt cracked a solo home run in the top of the second inning off of Dodgers starter Carlos Frias to tie the game at 1-1. Los Angeles would go on to win the game 4-1, but it doesn’t change the fact that the three-time All-Star loves visiting Chavez Ravine.
“America’s First Baseman” has now homered in four straight games at Dodger Stadium, tying a Diamondbacks franchise record set by Chad Tracy in 2005.
Tuesday, Goldschmidt followed A.J. Pollock’s solo home run in the seventh with a tater of his own, hitting a 2-1 slider from Chris Hatcher over the fence in right-center field. The blast gave the D-backs a 3-0 lead; they’d go on to win 8-0.
In Monday’s series opener, Goldschmidt connected with a Joel Peralta splitter, sending it off the foul pole in left field to extend Arizona’s lead to 6-2.
In a 7-6 loss to the Dodgers on June 10, Goldschmidt provided another souvenir, hitting a two-run home run off of Brett Anderson in the top of the fifth inning.
This “ownership” of Dodger Stadium is nothing new for the 28-year-old slugger. He’s hit more home runs there than any other park he’s visited in his career, with 13. AT&T Park in San Francisco is next on the list — Goldschmidt has homered eight times there.
In 35 career games at the storied ballpark, Goldschmidt is hitting .359 (51-for-142) and has driven in 30 runs while posting a 1.089 OPS.
Goldschmidt has a chance to homer again in Thursday’s series finale at Dodger Stadium, but it won’t be easy. Lefty Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, will take the mound for Los Angeles. Goldschmidt has homered off of the ace twice in 33 career at-bats, including once this season — back on April 11.
