ESPN’s Sports Science breaks down Kalen Ballage’s ‘scrum run’

Talk about an exclamation point.
Sophomore running back Kalen Ballage punctuated Arizona State’s 38-23 win over UCLA last Saturday with a ridiculous 23-yard touchdown run during which he backpedaled his way into the end zone while being surrounded by a mass of humanity from both teams.
It made a lot of national highlight shows, as it’s something not many people have ever seen before. It was so unique, in fact, that ESPN’s Sports Science broke down the particulars of the jaunt, which is now being called the “scrum run” since it looked like a rugby play.
As always, John Brenkus and his team add a lot of information that you probably didn’t think about while you were cheering Ballage’s super-human effort.
