University of Phoenix stadium repairs underway

Jun 15, 2011, 7:03 PM | Updated: 8:11 pm

Repairs to the roof of University of Phoenix Stadium are underway.

UOP Stadium, home to the Fiesta Bowl and the Arizona Cardinals, is not having an entire replacement of the roof, but rather some patchwork and specific repairs of rips and tears to the stadium’s $455 million roof.

Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority spokesman Jamie Molera said the cost will be somewhere between $4 million and $5 million.

“They won’t know for sure until they’re up on the roof fixing it,” Molera told the Phoenix Business Journal.

AZTA filed an insurance claim for the damage, which will cover the cost of the repairs.

The roof was torn and damaged in July by thunderstorms and high winds.

While the future of the NFL is unclear right now, the stadium will be ready for the Cardinals first home preseason game on Aug. 27, should the NFL come to a labor agreement.
