Reid torn on what to do with Kevin Kolb

All the talk of where Kevin Kolb will end up kind of misses one key point.

What if he’s not traded?

Throughout the lockout Eagles coach Andy Reid has given little hint as to what he will actually do with his 26-year-old backup QB, though most people tend to think he’ll trade him now rather than risk losing him for nothing next season.

In a sitdown interview with NFL Network’s Rich Eisen, Reid was wishy-washy at best on the subject, and frustrating at worst.

“He deserves an opportunity and I’ve got to make that decision because we like him,” Reid said. “I’ve got to take care of the Eagles first. But on the other hand, does he deserve an opportunity to play and be a starting quarterback in the National Football League? Absolutely.”

OK, thanks. That clears up…nothing.

Odds are Kolb is traded, as Reid is smart enough to know that barring an injury or collapse by Michael Vick, Kolb will not play much this season before leaving for the next.

Is he willing to take that risk, to ensure he has a capable backup on the roster? We can’t wait to find out.
