Steve Breaston to reunite with Todd Haley in Kansas City?

While most of the attention has gone to who the Cardinals will be adding once the NFL’s lockout ends, the team must deal with the important decisions of who to keep around as well.

Among the players expected to be free agents is wide receiver Steve Breaston. A four-year pro out of Michigan, there is chance he’ll want more money than the team is willing to pay him. If that is the case, Pro Football Weekly speculates that the 27-year-old will not be short on potential suitors.

Depending on their salary-cap situation, the Chiefs could make a run at free-agent WR Steve Breaston when the league year begins. Kansas City needs a slot receiver to play with starters Dwayne Bowe and Jonathan Baldwin, a role in which Breaston has thrived. He also is very familiar with Chiefs head coach Todd Haley, who was Breaston’s offensive coordinator at Arizona in 2007 and ’08.

Just one year ago the idea of the Cardinals parting ways with Breaston seemed unthinkable. He had proven to be a durable and effective receiver in the team’s offense, with sure hands and an ability to stretch the field.

However, Breaston tallied just 47 catches and one touchdown last season, and the emergence of rookie Andre Roberts could make the veteran expendable.
