Dan Majerle wishes such an oversight could happen when the NCAA Tournament selection committee meets in a few months.

Sports Illustrated debuted its bracket watch for the 2016 NCAA Tournament this week, and it included Majerle’s Grand Canyon Antelopes in the field as a play-in team and No. 16 seed.

That’s a nice compliment for the upcoming WAC school, but there’s a problem with that: Because of their recent move into Division I, the ‘Lopes aren’t eligible to play in the Big Dance until the 2017-18 season.

At 15-2 after a 79-75 win over New Mexico State, Grand Canyon is clearly on the up-and-up, and Majerle is clearly preparing his team to be, not only eligible, but ready to play in the NCAA Tournament come 2017-18.

Again, Sports Illustrated, it’s a few years from reality.
