The Arizona State Sun Devils have lost another assistant coach.

As first reported by Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro, defensive line coach Jackie Shipp is leaving to take the same position at Missouri.

Shipp joined the Arizona State coaching staff in 2013, and is credited for helping to develop defensive lineman Will Sutton as well as Marcus Hardison.

Though Arizona State struggled to a 6-7 season in 2015, the defense did finish third in the Pac-12 against the run and first in the conference in sacks with 46.

Prior to joining Todd Graham’s staff in Tempe, Shipp — who played in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Raiders — coached for Oklahoma, Langston University, Central Missouri State University, University of Tennessee at Martin, Southern Illinois University and Northeast Louisiana University. He also held coaching internships with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.

Along with his skills as a coach, theSunDevils.com noted Shipp was an effective recruiter.

Shipp was a recipient of the American Football Foundation Mike Campbell Top Assistant Coach Award and has been named by Rivals.com as a Top 25 recruiter nationally.

Shipp is just the latest in a growing list of assistant coaches to leave Arizona State, a number that was sure to grow once offensive coordinator and deputy head coach Mike Norvell took the head coaching job at Memphis.

How Shipp’s departure, which comes just days before the Feb. 3 National Letter of Intent Day, impacts ASU’s recruiting class remains to be seen.
