The Arizona Coyotes decided to move on from soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Mikkel Boedker, trading him to the Colorado Avalanche.

This season, Boedker had 39 points in 62 games played with 13 goals and 26 assists.

The 8th overall selection by the Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Draft, Boedker has had only two seasons with more than 30 points and has yet to reach the 20-goal mark in one season.

Despite being a veteran in his eighth season, Boedker is still only 26-years old. He is playing on a one-year, $3.75 million deal.

As Craig Morgan noted on Arizona Sports, Boedker has had three straight contract negotiations with the Coyotes not go his way.

Throughout the new year, there have been reported amounts on the contract Boedker desired and the Coyotes offering just that, leading some to speculate that Boedker wanted to go into free agency.

Coyotes fans will remember Boedker for his two straight game-winning goals in overtime against the Chicago Blackhawks in games 3 and 4 of the first round of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Coyotes youth movement is in full swing now, with forwards Max Domi and Anthony Duclair already making an impact this season and plenty more to come on the way. Centers Dylan Strome and Christian Dvorak are highly regarded prospects and the Coyotes are well-stocked with other young forwards.
