The 24-year-old Jenkins joined the NBA as a first-round pick, 23rd overall, of the Atlanta Hawks in 2012. He played four season for the Hawks before signing a three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks prior to this season.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound former Vanderbilt Commodore appeared in 21 games for the Mavericks — with one start — and averaged 3.3 points on .414 shooting. He was waived Feb. 22.
In all, Jenkins has appeared in 119 games over four seasons, starting six of them. He has career averages of 5.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting .446 from the field and .357 from 3-point range.
According to AZCentral Sports’ Paul Coro, the contract Jenkins signed, which the Suns will now take on, is not guaranteed for the 2016-17 or 2017-18 seasons.
