The Arizona Diamondbacks signed 33-year-old outfielder Rickie Weeks to a minor league contract and invited him to the team’s spring training, the club announced Saturday.

Weeks played his first 11 MLB seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers before spending 2015 with the Seattle Mariners. In just 37 games played last season, Weeks batted .167 with a .250 slugging percentage. For the first time in his career, Weeks was a left fielders in Seattle. He had previously been a second baseman and designated hitter.

Weeks would be a potential backup for David Peralta, A.J. Pollock and Yasmany Tomas.

The Mariners had designated Weeks for assignment and released him in June.

In 2014, Weeks was slashing .274/.357/.452 in 121 games for the Brewers. That production is likely what the Diamondbacks hope to rekindle in the former 20-plus home-run hitter (2010-12) as they look to fill out their roster.
