The first weekend of the 2016 NCAA Tournament is in the books, and it was not short on madness.
Big performances, crazy shots and upsets were all over the place, and no doubt many people saw their brackets go up in smoke just as the tournament was getting underway.
You can thank Michigan State’s loss to Middle Tennessee for that.
Here at Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, the pain of the No. 2 seed’s first-round exit was felt by many involved in Bracket Boss 2016, as Doug Franz, Vince Marotta, Bertrand Berry, Jon Bloom, John Gambadoro and Dave Burns all had the Spartans cutting down the nets as champions, and all now find themselves hoping for more chaos to unseat the other favorites.
Of course, Paul Calvisi should not be doing a dance do to his counterparts’ misfortune, as his pick, the Kentucky Wildcats, also did not make it out of the first weekend.
Heading into the Sweet 16, Franz has the lead but with his champion no longer on the board, his show co-host, Ron Wolfley, who has North Carolina knocking off Villanova in the final (with Oklahoma and Virgina filling out his Final Four), would seem to have an edge. Dan Bickley is also still in the hunt, and will remain there as long as the Kansas Jayhawks survive and advance.
