Moore scores season-high 34 points as Lynx top Mercury

PHOENIX — Maya Moore scored a season-high 34 points, Sylvia Fowles added 18 and the Minnesota Lynx held on to beat the Phoenix Mercury 85-78 on Wednesday night.

Minnesota (4-0), ranked No. 1 in the AP WNBA power poll, led by 14 points in the second half before Phoenix stormed back

Penny Taylor scored 18 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter for the Mercury who are 0-4 for the first time since 2008 and the third time in franchise history.

The home team lost for just the second time in the last 15 meetings in the series.

Taylor hit a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play on consecutive possessions during Phoenix’s 14-2 run to open the fourth. Minnesota answered with a 7-3 run, including a contested 3-poiner by Moore, for a 73-69 lead.

DeWanna Bonner hit 1 of 2 free throws with 25.4 seconds left to pull Phoenix to 79-78, but Moore answered with two free throws for a three-point lead. Diana Taurasi missed a contested 3 and Fowles made it a two-possession game at the line with 10.6 seconds remaining.
