Mercury ‘not concerned’ about rough start

It’s only four games into the 2012 WNBA campaign, but the
Phoenix Mercury have found themselves in unfamiliar
territory.

After Thursday night’s 81-65 loss in Atlanta, the Mercury
are just 1-3 with another road game at San Antonio
looming.

To make matters worse, forward Penny Taylor is out for the
season with a knee injury and five-time All-WNBA first
team selection Diana Taurasi is out with a strained hip
flexor.

Despite the slow start, team president and COO Amber Cox
doesn’t seem to be losing sleep.

“We’re not concerned,” Cox said Friday on Arizona Sports
620 with Doug and Wolf. “We’ve had some changes, we’ve
got some new faces. Obviously without Penny Taylor and
Diana Taurasi, at least temporarily, we’ve got to get the
chemistry right and find the right rotations.

“I think we can do it.”

Cox also updated the condition of Taurasi, who has led the
league in points per game in each of the last four
seasons.

“She’s in recovery mode, and it’s going to be at least a
week or two at minimum to get her back healthy where we
need her to be,” Cox said.

After Friday night’s game at San Antonio, the Mercury
return home to US Airways Center for a date against the
Tulsa Shock Sunday.
